Builders Supplies (West Coast) Ltd has continued its stalwart support of the local building community by again sponsoring the prestigious Built In Quality Awards.
Managing Director, Peter Worthington, who has steered his company through past economic peaks and troughs, is resolutely positive about the current financial climate.
“You only have to look at the standard of all the projects entered to the awards to realise just how high the bar is set by local builders,” he said. “And now, more than ever, these quality trades people should be applauded.”
Award winners included, David Robinson (Domestic); Flamemanor Developments Ltd (Multi-Housing); Balfour Beatty Northwest Ltd (commercial) and Newfield Jones Homes. “Firms like these make the construction industry the backbone of the British economy. It’s crucial that the government is put under pressure to support this sector and groups like ‘Get Britain Building’ are doing just that,” said Mr Worthington.
Get Britain Building is a partnership of organisations within the construction sector who are calling for the creation of a new business environment to support the UK construction industry, with an emphasis on minimising excessive control, regulation and taxation. A driving force behind the initiative is the Builders Merchants Federation, of which Mr Worthington is the Regional Chairman, “The campaign, which has the support of EU Ministers, is lobbying for substantial reductions in VAT on home repairs; maintenance and improvements,” he said. “Moves like this will be vital in supporting the industry through the ‘credit crunch’. We know we’ve got the quality builders; we know we’ve got the demand-so Get Britain Building should be the words on everyone’s lips.”
